Starting again...

I’ve been a weaver for quite some time, beginning in 1988 with my very first class at Moore College of Art.

When I left college, I bought a loom and continued on my own but didn’t get very far. Community and weaving go hand-in-hand. There’s so much to know even before one buys the threads to warp and weave and although I had some successes, I never really got the hang of it. Life got crazy with teenage children, aging parents with health issues, and a full time job.

But the urge to weave never left and in 2005 I left a full time job with the decision to focus on weaving. Fortunately, Pam Pawl, an wonderfully supportive teacher was setting up her own classes and I was able to study with her for a number of years. I consider that time a true gift from the universe!

For 10 years I wove scarves, shawls, and towels and I began participating in local craft shows. I had a great time doing it. I even tried blogging during that time but lost the site due to a glitch. Then life - the other life…family, home, work…took over once again, and my inventory dwindled, and my favorite craft show ceased to exist.

But the weaving bug continued to bite and in 2016, I began taking online tapestry classes with Rebecca Mezoff. She’s an amazing teacher and I throughly enjoy her classes. Tapestry has been a wonderful outlet when working through the steps to prepare a larger loom for weaving feels overwhelming..

Life still gets in the way but I’m making a concerted effort back to return to the studio. Currently I’m exploring wedge weave and having a great time doing it. (More about that later.)

The plan is to keep this blog as a diary of what I’m working on and discovering as a weaver. I’ll probably throw some other stuff in the posts also as I don’t consider weaving the only creative part of my life. My home, family, garden, and kitchen, IMHO, are all opportunities for creativity.

So, here’s to starting again.
